| SPO4 Bernal was Arrested and Tried by the People's Court, a Rejoinder
Ka Diego Wadagan Spokesperson Agustin Begnalen Command
September 09, 2004
In our previous statement "Justice served against a hardened criminal; Revolutionary punishment of SPO4 Ernesto "Polsingit" Bernal" (September 6, 2004), emphasis was ensured in clarifying the following:
- SPO4 Bernal was charged with heinous crimes and was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt;
- He was arrested, and he freely submitted himself to the arresting officers of the Agustin Begnalen Command;
- He was tried by a people's court; and
- that the judicial system of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines failed to give justice to his innumerable victims, despite public knowledge of his crimes.
It is unfortunate that these points were downplayed, or outrightly questioned or contested, worst judged as false, by the police and some media outfits. The Agustin Begnalen Command has in its possesion full documentation of the entire process to substantiate these points. We are appending some pictures to concretize our earlier statement. We further clarify the following:
- Contrary to claims by the Philippine National Police through Police spokeswoman Emily Cayandag, SPO4 Bernal was not ambushed;
- Virgilio Bernal is not the older brother of SPO4 Bernal, as claimed by spokeswoman Emily Cayandag; and
- among the heinous crimes perpetrated by SPO4 Bernal is rape, a crime punishable by death even according to the laws of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.
