CEASEFIRE MONITORING REPORT
Jorge "Ka Oris" Madlos Spokesperson NDF-Mindanao
January 02, 2005
With pleasure we announce to the people of Mindanao and the whole nation that generally, NPA units in Mindanao sincerely abided by the 10 day unilateral ceasefire declared by the leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines that started last December 23, 2004 until January 2, 2005.
On the other hand, the 22 days unilateral ceasefire declared by the reactionary US-Arroyo regime that started December 16 until January 5, was tainted by violations by its own armed forces.
Last December 16, 2004, a unit of the 5th Scout Ranger had an operation inside an NPA area in Sitio Palompon, San Isidro, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur. At around 4:30 in the afternoon of the same day, NPA snipers were forced to fire at the said troop of Scout Rangers for defense. 2 members of the Scout Rangers died while there was no casualty on the side of the NPA.
Since December 16 until December 18, 2004, troops of the 30th IB, 58th IB and 23rd IB launched war games in Simbalan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. After this it held a pulong-pulong.
In Balit, San Luis, Agusan del Sur, up to the present troops under Col. Macanas continue to forcibly occupy the barrio even if the people have been protesting for them to leave because of violations done.
Last December 25, a certain Teofilo Laguada was shot by Leviboy Edul, believed to be a military asset in Kalabat, Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur.
Eversince, it has been a practice of the AFP-PNP-CAFGU not to sincerely abide by their ceasefire declaration.
