The revolutionary people's organizations in Abra and the Cordillera region vehemently condemns the irrational acts of the 50th IB and the 503rd Infantry Brigade in preventing family members from retrieving the remains of a slain Red fighter.<br>

For four days, relatives of Michael "Ka Tarius" Reyes, attempted to retrieve the body of the slain NPA leader who was killed last June 6 in Layaban, Beew, Tubo, Abra. But they were prevented from doing so by elements of the 50th IB despite the presence and support of local government officials and concerned elders. Pleas of the family members to the officers of the said government combat units on humanitarian considerations fell on deaf ears. In violation of human rights and international humanitarian conventions on the rules of war, the said military unit continues to deny to the family members access to the cadaver up to the present.<br>

Ka Tarius is a true son of the people's revolution. Coming from a poor peasant family in Lacub, Abra Province, his parents tried their best efforts to send him to school. While in his early youth, he was an active leader in their community. Cutting short his college education, Ka Tarius joined the NPA in 2002 and at the time of his death was a squad leader, a member of the platoon command and was in the leadership of the Party branch of the NPA unit.<br>

Immediately after being informed of the death of their loved one, his relatives and townmates formed a search delegation to retrieve the slain NPA cadre's body. Although he lived a short but meaningful life, Ka Tarius is a shining example that will inspire more of his fellow youth to follow; his death weighs like a mountain not only to his village but to all Abra and the Cordillera. The martyrdom of Ka Tarius as with rest of other true revolutionary martyrs, the following truism holds: a tree dies, a tree is born, the forest lives.<br>

The Cordillera Peoples Democratic Front condoles with the family of Ka Tarius, and calls on all who knew the slain Red fighter to transform grief into revolutionary commitment and fervor. Let the shining example of Michael "Ka Tarius" Reyes bring forth hundreds more who will pick up his gun and continue the armed struggle to victory.<br>
