Unscrupulous "reconciliation" deals igniting widespread political unrest against Arroyo regime

The recent legal turnarounds and special privileges granted to Joseph Estrada by the Sandiganbayan have brought to the fore the unscrupulous political deals being forged by Malacaang with Estrada as well as the Marcoses and their cronies.

The favors granted to Estrada are inconsistent with the gravity and capital nature of the plunder case case against him as they allow him the special privilege and unwarranted luxury of living as a free man in his resthouse at Tanay, Rizal.

Worse, in an imminent reversal of the people's historic verdict at EDSA 2, the Sandiganbayan has also issued a ruling on July 13 stating that Estrada cannot be prosecuted for opening and using the infamous "Jose Velarde" account at the Equitable Bank. This undermines the perjury case against Estrada, and is paving the ground for the dismissal of the plunder case filed against him before the Sandiganbayan.

The Arroyo regime's "reconciliation" deals with Estrada, the Marcoses and others guilty of major crimes against the people undermine the people's quest for justice. In forging pacts with entities who have already been unequivocally judged by history as people's enemies, the Arroyo regime is igniting massive political unrest, furthering its isolation and sowing the seeds of its own destruction.
