Amirah Lidasan, Makabayan Coalition's 11th senatorial candidate

,

Moro leader Amirah “Mek” Lidasan declared today, September 24, her intention to run for the Senate in the 2025 election. Lidasan, currently Moro-Christian People’s Alliance secretary general and Sandugo – Movement of Moro and Indigenous Peoples for Self Determination co-chairperson, is the 11th senatorial candidate of the Makabayan Coalition.

Her declaration was made in conjunction with the commemoration of the Palimbang Massacre of Sultan Kudarat where 1,500 Moro citizens were killed by the forces of the then dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Lidasan has been an active defender of the rights of minority citizens since she was a young activist at the University of the Philippines. She has dedicated almost her entire life to the resistance of the Moro people and indigenous communities and their right for self-determination.

“We are thrilled to have Amirah Lidasan join our senatorial slate,” Atty. Neri Colmenares, former Bayan Muna representative and Makabayan Coalition co-chairperson, said. “Her unwavering commitment to justice and her tireless advocacy for the rights of the marginalized and indigenous people make her an invaluable asset to our team.”

Colmenares said Amirah’s candidacy is a testament to the diversity and strength of the coalition. “Her voice will amplify the issues of the Moro and Indigenous Peoples in the Senate, ensuring that their struggles and aspirations are heard and addressed.”
