In thoroughly acquiescing to the US move to brand the CPP and NDFP as "terrorists", the US-Macapagal-Arroyo regime is in essence, putting an end to the peace talks between the GRP and NDFP. The regime is using this declaration supposedly to force the revolutionary movement to go back to the negotiating table on its knees, but it is actually the regime that suspended and put up all sorts of obstacles to the talks. The GRP negotiating panel has long been insisting on rushing the draft of a "final agreement", contrary to the framework and agenda for the talks that had already been earlier agreed upon. The regime also stubbornly refuses to fulfill its responsibilities in accordance with previously signed agreements. Instead of conducting formal talks, the Macapagal-Arroyo regime insists on holding "non-formal talks of indefinite duration" to cover up the fact that it has turned its back on the negotiations. According to the NDFP, it remains open to talks with the current regime if the latter is ready to resume the formal peace talks. If not, the NDFP likewise expressed its readiness to wait for the next regime before resuming the talks. ![]()
