CPP condemns Arroyo for signing National ID order
April 21, 2005
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today condemned President Gloria Arroyo for signing an executive order establishing a national identification system and called on all progressive forces and civil liberatarians to oppose its enforcement.
CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said the setting up of a national identification system paves the way for the Arroyo regime's plans to institute martial rule to curtail the Filipino people's civil and political liberties and silence mass-based resistance to the regime's corruption, oppression and puppetry.
"The Arroyo regime mendaciously portrays the National Identification System as a benign measure by saying that it would facilite access to government services and has even tasked a civilian agency to oversee its implementation," Rosal said.
"In truth, however, a National Identification System in the hands of the Arroyo regime will be used as an instrument of oppression," Rosal stressed. "In the light of the Arroyo regime's intensified campaign of suppression against progressive forces," said Rosal, "the National ID System will be used as an additional instrument of state terror against the Filipino people."
