So-called terrorist plot, smokescreen for AFP scandals
October 23, 2004

The Communist Party of the Philippines today expressed serious doubts as to the authenticity of the so-called terrorist plot to attack the US Embassy disclosed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) the other day.

"The timing of the disclosure raises serious doubts," declared CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal.

Rosal observed "deliberateness" in the successive issuance of statements in the past few days by Malacanang and the AFP which focus on so-called terrorist threats and alleged linkages with the CPP.

"Clearly, they aim to draw away attention from the much-publicized congresssional investigation into widespread corruption among AFP generals."

"The Arroyo government is declaring dubious victories in its desperate bid to revive the sagging morale of the foot soldiers and junior officials of the AFP and Philippine National Police," said Rosal.
