AFP intelligence is not so intelligent
January 28, 2003

"Malacanang and the AFP only look more stupid in invoking 'military intelligence' as its so-called source of information for propaganda purposes -- and worse, as basis for its policies."

Communist Party of the Philippines spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said this in reaction to a statement made by Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes over radio asserting that they "have military intelligence reports" about the existence of an "NPA hitlist" that supposedly has certain cabinet officials among the targets of the NPA.

"As has been proven in the past and as is being exhibited now, for Malacanang and the DND/AFP, "military intelligence" has become a contradiction in terms. In fact, for them, real military intelligence simply does not exist," Rosal added. "Kapag ang pinagbabatayan nila ay 'military intelligence', ibig sabihin, wala silang kadatos-datos," he said in a radio interview.

"I challenge Reyes to release hard and incontrovertible evidence to prove this so-called military intelligence report about an 'NPA hitlist' that even includes inconsequential people like Tiglao and Ople, who are guilty of obnoxious political opportunism but still have not necessarily deserved any more severe punishment than being exposed and disregarded as nothing else but cheap and dishonest political charlatans," Rosal declared.

He condemned "Malacanang (for) fooling people by using 'military intelligence' as its ever-reliable source of information."

"Only Malacanang, the DND and the AFP are making a big thing out of such a fictitious list for the sheer purpose of portraying the NPA as bloodthirsty and targetting wholesale even those who do not actually have criminal records against the people and revolutionary movement," Rosal added. "On the other hand, they are now trying hard to portray Romulo Kintanar as an angel despite his reprehensive and despicable record as a criminal and counter-revolutionary."

Rosal also reiterated that only a selected few incorrigible have made themselves deserving of capital punishment by the revolutionary forces, but even then only after "having been proven beyond doubt by the people's court of mitigated heinous criminal and counter-revolutionary acts and having been given the maximum leeway to rectify and make amends."

To the statement by Reyes saying that charges will be filed against Rosal because "he admitted to the crime", Rosal said, "again, Reyes is showing how shallow is their so-called military intelligence, not to mention the level of their mental work."###
