Two CAFGU elements punished by the NPA in Eastern Samar

The NDF-Eastern Visayas announced today that two elements of the paramilitary CAFGU were punished by the NPA in Eastern Samar this March 1. They were proven guilty by the people's court of anti-people and counterrevolutionary crimes.

According to a report by the Sergio Lobina Command (SLC), the NPA provincial operations command in Eastern Samar, the death penalty was meted on CAFGU elements Tiyok Barsana, 70, and his son Doming Barsana, 50, at 6:15 a.m. in Brgy. Buenavista, Quinapondan, Eastern Samar. The two CAFGU elements were both residents of Brgy. Buenavista and in active service under the 62nd IB PA that is based in Hernani, Eastern Samar.

The SLC enumerated the following crimes of the two CAFGU elements:

1. They murdered innocent civilians whom they suspected as supporters or members of the revolutionary movement;

2. They served as active military informers since the 1980s, despite several warnings to them;

3. They guided military operations in the countryside;

4. They interrogated and threatened newcomers in their barrio; and

5. Tiyok Barsana molested a nine-year-old child in Brgy. Buenavista in 2002, and both father and son committed other antisocial activities.

The SLC added that the NPA had striven since the 1980s to talk with and persuade the Barsana father and son to leave the CAFGU and end their antisocial activities. But to no avail, and in fact, they became even more active in the CAFGU and in their antisocial and counterrevolutionary activities. After due process in the revolutionary justice system, the death penalty was finally meted on the two CAFGUs, to the relief and joy of the people and their victims.#
