CPP says US is to blame for AFP-PNP human rights violations
March 3, 2005
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today said that the United States government and its blind anti-terror drive is the one to blame for the bloody human rights record of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
"It is the US government and its Armed Forces that have trained, indoctrinated and supported the AFP and PNP since the very start," CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said. "The AFP and PNP are the most reliable organizations of US imperialist rule in the Philippines."
Rosal was reacting to a report released by the US State Department the other day pinpointing the AFP and PNP as the top human rights violators.
"It is the US military, in fact, that teaches the AFP and PNP how to trample on human rights. It exhibits its rabid fascist orientation through the arbitrary detention and torture of so-called terrorists in its camps in Guantanamo, Iraq and Afghanistan," Rosal said.
"The AFP and PNP violate human rights systematically and pervasively in their drive to quell the Filipino people's struggles against US military intervention, oppression and domination in the Philippines," said Rosal.
"Violations of human rights have intensified since Arroyo declared allegiance to the Bush regime's so-called war against terror," Rosal observed. "The escalation of US military intervention has emboldened the Arroyo regime to carry out militarist and fascist acts against the Filipino people."
