Bush promise of military support is tantamount to military intervention – CPP
October 20, 2003

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today condemned US Pres. George W. Bush for "outright military intervention in the local civil war and making a surrogate army out of the AFP" in the wake of Bush's announcement of support for the Arroyo government's five-year program to upgrade the AFP's equipment and capability to fight the revolutionary movement.

CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said such support only goes to show that the Arroyo government, the AFP and the entire reactionary ruling system are so dependent on the US and incapable of fighting the people's revolutionary movement without US support.

Rosal said that the US deserves the people's condemnation all the more for its outright interventionism and the the Arroyo regime for its blatant puppetry.

"The Arroyo government's dependence on US support contrasts sharply with the revolutionary movement's self-reliance. The revolutionary movement arms itself mainly by winning battles and confiscating weapons from the puppet army. The strength of the New People's Army rests primarily on the support of the Filipino people," Rosal added.

Rosal expressed confidence that many of the useful arms and weaponry that will be handed down to the AFP will eventually end up in the hands of the NPA. "By carrying out tactical offensives, the NPA will be able to acquire more and more arms from the AFP, including those that came from the US military," said Rosal.
