NPA condemns wave of fascist AFP attacks in countryside of ComVal and Agusan

The masses and the revolutionary forces strongly condemn the wave of fascist and human-rights atrocities of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, specifically the 4th Scout Ranger Company-2nd Scout Ranger Battallion and the 60th Infantry Battalion, under the 404th Brigade of the Philippine Army.

Behind the web of lies spun by Lt. Col. Agane Adriatico and the AFP's spin doctors is the trail of blood and anguish among the civilian residents in Laac, Monkayo and Veruela towns. From October 17 to 30 and from November 4 to 14, the 4th SRC and the 60th IB conducted joint counter-revolutionary operations in the 15 barangays in these boundary towns.

In a span of 18 days, the military mercilessly assaulted, tortured, and threatened the peasants and Lumads. Soldiers buttstroked a barangay captain, forced the fake surrender of five militant leaders and claimed that the surrender was voluntary. They ransacked an elementary school, looted and stole valuable belongings and source of food and livelihood of the residents, encamped within the premises of civilians and the barrio center, and forcibly entered and searched the houses of residents.

This is just the latest of the string of atrocities committed by the fascist AFP, and it came at a time when the military is embroiled in various scandals. The generals and the senior officers are wallowing in colossal corruption. Their troops are fascist to the core. And the so-called "elite forces" or the Scout Rangers are no different from the notorious 60th IB in terms of its fascist attacks against the masses. It is, thus, not surprising that the AFP has isolated itself from and is gravely feared by the peasants and the Lumad people.

Highly questionable is the much-ballyhoed "idealism" of the AFP junior officers who are the ones leading the abusive militarization in the countryside. The field officers of the Scout Rangers were part of the Magdalo group in its legitimate struggle during the Oakwood Mutiny. Yet the Scout Rangers themselves have led the most brutal campaigns of suppression in the countryside.

The AFP has miserably failed in its campaign against the revolutionary forces in its series of military operations within the revolutionary territory of the Alejandro Lanaja Command. Behind Lt. Col. Adriatico's lies are five Scout Rangers who were killed, scores of soldiers were wounded, including one Lt. Docolan, which resulted from the three armed actions of the New People's Army, including two sniping incidents on Nov. 6 and Nov. 12, and a counter-raid attack on Nov. 9. One Red fighter was martyred in one of these tactical offensives.

The AFP has been unsuccessful in destroying the revolutionary mass bass with its series of military operations. The masses strongly resisted the AFP's counter-revolutionary campaign, thanks to their staunch revolutionary consciousness arising from their participation in building the people's democratic government in the countryside, in carrying out the agrarian revolution and in the armed struggle.

In contrast to the AFP's brutality and fascism, the NPA strictly adheres to discipline and remains firmly committed in serving the people and the revolution. As the genuine soldiers of the masses, the NPA and the overall revolutionary struggle shall continue to reap the people's support.
