On the Bali bomb blast
Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal Spokesperson Communist Party of the Philippines
October 14, 2002
The Communist Party of the Phillipines strongly condemns the despicable bombings in Bali Island that resulted in the death of almost 200 people.
The CPP extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this heinous crime.
But more than the Bali bomb blast, the bigger tragedy that may befall the Indonesian people is the exploitation of these incidents to justify the US long-standing desire to further its intervention in Indonesia.
The US has long wanted to deploy its military troops in Indonesia. However, Indonesian Pres. Megawati Sukarnoputri has not easily acceded to this demand. Because of this, American secret operatives have been in Indonesia for several months now, finding ways to destabilize the Sukarnoputri regime in order to force it to open its borders and tranform Indonesia into a platform for US imperialisms international war of terror.
The US wants to use Southeast Asia as a base for its wars of aggression in the Asia-Pacific. It is using its war against terrorism to intensify its intervention especially in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Directly or indirectly, the Bali bombings serve the devious objectives of US imperialism.
We call on the Indonesian people to defend their sovereignty and exert all-out resistance against the US plot to directly intervene in Indonesia. ###
