Red Salute to the NPA unit that carried out the July 2, 2003 ambush in Sitio Tapayen, Alaoa, Tineg

July 06, 2003 An NPA squad of the Agustin Begnalen Command successfully carried out attritive action against troops of the 17th IB, 503rd Brigade on July 2,2003 at Sitio Tapayen, Alaoa, Tineg. Confirmed killed was Pfc Ryan Abad and seriously injured was SSgt Pedro Madriaga. The ambush was carried out as a punitive action against AFP troops conducting SOT (special operations team) operations in the area codenamed "Oplan Alaoa".
"Oplan Alaoa" is directed by Lt. Col. Gonzaga and involved composite units of the 17th IB. SSgt. Madriaga is in afact a personnel of the HHC (higher headquarters coy). Instead of helping the people of Barangay Alaoa who have been victims of the Benwaren warlord family for decades, the 17th IB and Alaoa Barangay Captain Rey Tandi, a known Benwaren bodyguard-cum-killer, 10 persons have been charged with the burning of the Vera Camp, in Barangaya Alaoa. 9 among those charged are lowly farmers of Barangay Alaoa, who have been falsely accused as being members of the NPA. As no bail was recommended for those charged, the 9 accused have gone into hiding, especially because elements of the 17th IB conducting "Oplan Alaoa" have been in the said barangay for more than 4 months now. Furthermore, the people's daily routine has been greatly affected by the militarization of the said Barangay.
It will be recalled that the people of Barangay Alaoa became internal refugees and temporarily left their barangay in August to October, 2002, due to the intense fighting among the warlords of Tineg. The 17th IB acted as a private army of the Benwaren warlord family, willingly conducting mock ambushes against Benwaren and conducting terror operations against people who oppose warlordism in Tineg. As such, the NPA, being the true people's army, will act in behalf of, and for the people and will continue to frustrate the fascist attacks of the AFP.
