Servando Magbanua
Tomloy: October 2, 1978
The battlefield is silent now
Save for the windblown trees
And the flowing river - and yet
Not long ago this morning did they
Also wait in pregnant silence
For this vengeance long unquenched
In the hearts of thirteen Red warriors.
born out of agony in their toils
angered by the treason of the few
steeled by the love and sacrifices
of a people longing to be free. . .
Thus did trees and river witness
Not so unlike the lyrics of song
The silence ripped wide open
In a fraction of forever
By gunfire and grenades
Then battlecries of victory
By the thirteen Red warriors
Standing over the fallen enemy!
A threshold has been crossed
In another day of struggle.
So shall it always be. Like this.
Courage and wisdom together
From victory to victory
Till that sweet day of freedom!
