Surrender out of the question -- CPP
August 17, 2002

The CPP today belittled freeze orders by the US, Dutch and British governments on its alleged assets abroad.

In a statement, CPP spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said that Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was laboring under the "gigantic illusion" that the freeze order would paralyze the Philippine revolutionary movement.

The Macapagal-Arroyo government, said Rosal, is mistaken in believing that it could "compel the revolutionary movement to just set aside the principles it has been fighting for and capitulate because of such pressure". Rosal said that the CPP would "never surrender to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo".

Rosal stressed that the revolutionary movement has sustained itself and expanded self-reliantly and was not dependent on foreign support. He also said that weapons held by the NPA were sourced from tactical offensives against the military and the police, with many also "voluntarily surrendered by soldiers, policemen and CAFGU elements".

Rosal likewise explained that the revolutionary movement would continue to advance because it "continues to fight for the welfare and enjoys the support of the exploited and oppressed masses".

Rosal also assailed Macapagal-Arroyo's pressure tactics against the revolutionary movement, saying that she was interested merely in crushing the CPP and was "not the least interested in addressing and resolving widespread exploitation and oppression, which lie at the roots of the civil war raging in the country".
