Major Buan is a liar – Ka Roger
April 8, 2002
Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal today called Maj. Noel Buan a liar for “weaving a string of lies about himself and against the revolutionary movement”. “The people should be forewarned about other poisons that Major Buan may spit out”, Rosal added.
In a statement, Rosal said Major Buan, who was recently appointed head of the Special Affairs Group of the Philippine Army, “is trying to build his credibility by portraying himself as a very able spy, which is farthest from the truth”.
Rosal revealed that in the entrapment operation planned by the NPA to arrest Buan, “he easily fell for a story that Comrade Tirso “Ka Bart” Alcantara wanted to speak to him to arrange his surrender”. Buan agreed to enter a guerrilla zone, resulting in his easy arrest by the NPA on July 7, 1999.
Rosal also belied Buan’s claims that if he were to be given one month with one rebel, he would be able to convince the rebel to leave the movement. Rosal said that Buan failed even after two years of trying to convince his custodial force to surrender.
“He would not even converse properly when he was a prisoner-of-war. He would always isolate himself… kung kakausapi’y pabalbal at papilosopo ang sagot (whenever we tried to talk to him, he would answer us rudely and make absurd statements),” Rosal said.
Rosal also clarified that Buan never attempted to convince him to surrender. “He did not even want to talk to me,” said Rosal.
Rosal termed as “malicious” the insinuation that Alcantara had a hand in the death of Armando Teng, former secretary of the CPP Southern Tagalog Regional Committee. Buan claimed that Teng was poisoned. Rosal, however, said that Teng died of kidney failure, after several years of suffering from a serious kidney ailment.
Buan wants the public to believe that the cadres and members of the revolutionary movement “are no different from military and civilian officials who sow intrigues, maneuver, kill and commit other crimes to acquire the priviledges that come with high positions”, Rosal added.
“He is also fabricating issues such as the supposed unequal rationing of cigarettes to cover-up the fact that all revolutionary forces are firmly united on the Party’s policies and programs,” Rosal said.
“He is desperately trying to show that the gross inequality between the exploiting classes and the toiling masses likewise exists within the revolutionary movement.”
