CPP calls for broad united front against the Macapagal-Arroyo regime
April 1, 2002
The Communist Party of the Philippines has called for a broad united front against the Macapagal-Arroyo regime "no matter how near or far in time" the Macapagal-Arroyo regime may be overthrown.
In a statement issued on the 33rd anniversary of the NPA on March 29, CPP chair Armando Liwanag depicted the regime as "(hoping) to remain in power up to and beyond 2004 by playing the role of rabid puppet to the US and submitting to all its dictates, especially in matters concerning the military."
Liwanag said that the regime "continues to stink by being subservient to the US, by aggravating the economic and social crisis and by being corrupt, deceptive and repressive."
He added that the increasing presence of US military forces in the Philippines highlights the government's puppetry and is "a time bomb that can explode in the face of the (Macapagal-Arroyo) regime."
