CPP urges overthrow pro-war governments

The Communist Party of the Philippines today called on people around the world to launch more strikes and demonstrations and other legitimate and revolutionary forms of struggle to overthrow the governments leading and supporting US plans to wage a war of aggression against Iraq.

In a statement released today, CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said that "it is just for the American people to overthrow the oppressive, bellicose and colonialist Bush regime."

"This is the least that should be exacted from Bush regime for inflicting disorder and war in the world, trampling on the rights of nations and violating the civil rights of the American people," Rosal added.

Rosal called for "strikes and demonstrations and various forms of illegal, semilegal, armed and unarmed forms of struggle."

He noted the decline in popularity of the Bush government.

Rosal also cited the recent demonstration of 2 million people in the United Kingdom, saying it was indicative of the widespread rejection of the British people of the Blair government's support for the US war of agression against Iraq.

"The anti-imperialist and anti-war people's movement is presently on the upsurge, has approximated and is even now surpassing the peak of the worldwide demonstrations against the US war on Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s," Rosal said. "It is inspiring to note that the biggest turn-out of protestors are coming from countries whose governments are the most belligerent."

"It is the task of the people and revolutionary forces around the world to take advantage of this situation in order to advance the revolutionary struggle, further expand and strengthen the anti-imperialist united front and overthrow the governments in their own countries leading and supporting the planned attack and occupation of Iraq," Rosal elaborated.

He also said that governments "allied and blindly subservient to the US must be held accountable." He identified the Berlusconi government of Italy, the Howard regime of Australia and the Macapagal-Arroyo government.

"History once again demonstrates that nothing is stronger than the power of a united people. Super people power will rise worldwide against the decadent and oppressive US superpower," said Rosal.
