"Ople to become NPA's supply officer" - KM

"Thanks but no thanks." This was the reaction of Andres Guerrero II, national spokesperson of the Kabataang Makabayan (KM), to foreign affairs secretary Blas Ople's statement yesterday.

According to Guerrero, Ople's prodding for 30 military helicopters and 30,000 M-16 rifles from the US government is "an act of extreme puppetry to the US imperialists on one hand, and a demonstration of his hardened anti-people stance."

The Philippine government is urging the Bush government for the military supplies to help fight insurgents and suspected terror groups. Last year, the US government labeled the CPP & NPA of being terrorist groups.

"This utter display of puppetry of some senile and warfreak cabinet men like Ople will only exacerbate the already intense militarization in the countryside. The puppet Macapagal-Arroyo regime is drooling over the acquisition of the said military supplies among other "support" from the US government for this will hasten its policy of state terrorism and its dream of frustrating the surging revolutionary movement," Guerrero stated.

Guerrero further said that the Kabataang Makabayan fears another spate of Maco massacre should the AFP be rewarded in its killings of civilians and activists by further strengthening its capacity to kill. He was referring to the abduction, torture and summary execution of four youth activists in Compostela Valley two weeks ago.

"But we are warning Ople and the puppet Macapagal-Arroyo regime that this will only strengthen the New People's Army. The secretary will do a big favor for the revolutionary movement because he will be acting as supply officer for the NPA. These rifles will surely land in the hands of the NPA for every successful tactical offensive that it will carry out," Guerrero ended. ###
