National ID, Arroyo’s preparatory option for a police state
November 30, 2003
The Communist Party of the Philippines today called President Gloria Arroyo as a "police state zealot" in view of her vigorous and insistent campaign to implement a National ID system.
CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said in a statement today that Arroyo has bared herself as a police state zealot who advocates political suppression and other martial law measures as pseudo-solutions to problems which in the first place are deeply rooted in the rotten ruling system.
Rosal said that in advocating a National ID system as a solution to criminality and terrorism, Arroyo is covering-up the glaring fact that the biggest criminals and terrorists are in the AFP and PNP and high government offices."
“Arroyo is methodically transforming the Philippines into a police state in steps, including lately her order to set up police checkpoints throughout the country and now her drive to implement a National ID system,” Rosal said further. “She using the National ID system as her preparatory option for a police state if necessary for her extention of power.”
"The Filipino people will oppose the National ID system with as much vigor as Arroyo's advocacy for it," said Rosal. "Arroyo's proposal for a National ID system must be ripped apart just as his predecessors' proposals for it were consistently thrashed by the people."
Rosal added that with its show of utter rottenness, the ruling reactionary state will only use the proposed national ID system as an instrument of oppression just as the cedula was so used by Spanish colonialism.#
