Moros are made sacrificial lambs in Malacaņang's terrorist card--CPP
April 3, 2004

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) said today that in playing the terrorist card Malacaņang is now cruelly oppressing Moros and making scapegoats out of them in the hope of winning electoral support or, failing that, as preparation for "tougher anti-terrorist contingency measures" which would undermine the elections.

CPP spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal denounced the Arroyo government for the spate of violations of the rights of the Moro people the past two weeks. Rosal cited the cruel and indiscriminate raids of Moro communities, random arrests, tortures, frame ups and extraction of forced "confessions" of "terrorist suspects" in Metro Manila and elsewhere.

Rosal expressed the CPP's support to the struggle of the harassed Moro people against national oppression and violations of their human rights in the face of the Arroyo regime's anti-Moro drive. He also called on all progressive and democratic forces to fully support the Moro people's struggle to defend their national and human rights.

Rosal said that Malacaņang's terrorist card has the immediate aim of trying to win popular support in the May elections. He said further that it is also a psyops preparation for "extra-constitutional measures" which the Arroyo ruling clique is opting for in the imminence of Arroyo's electoral defeat come May.

Relatedly, Rosal earlier also strongly criticized the Philippine National Police's proposal to institute a discriminatory "Muslim ID" system as a precursor to the strongly protested long-standing plan to institute a fascist National ID system.
