CPP demands official Malacaņang repudiation of Gonzales' lies
April 10, 2004

The Communist Party of the Philippines today demanded a clear official Malacaņang repudiation of its National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales' lies and intrigues. Otherwise, the CPP will regard Malacaņang as acting in bad faith and question the sense and basis of furthering peace talks with it.

The CPP's central committee, through CPP spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal, vehemently accused Malacaņang of lying through its teeth about Gonzales' charge that government funds were funneled by Bayan Muna to the CPP.

The CPP's central leadership said that Gonzales obviously concocted his spurious "inside information from an NPA" about the central committee's berating Bayan Muna representative Satur Ocampo for not delivering agreed upon amounts from the party list's Countryside Development Fund (CDF). "He is a bagful of lies," said Rosal.

He also noted that Gonzales has been trying to get away with murder while unable to show any of the evidences he keeps saying they are in his possession. Rosal said that having had so many opportunities to make good his claim that he has a videotape of NDF chief political consultant Jose Ma. Sison admitting that Bayan Muna is a CPP front, Gonzales has never shown any videotape. "Because, in the first place, there is no such videotape," said Rosal.

Rosal added that Gonzales keeps on referring to his other documented "evidences" but refuses to show them to the public and leave them for examination and scrutiny.

Rosal said that the CPP has taken note of the NDF chief political consultant's questions about Arroyo's sincerity in pursuing the peace talks. Sison said that he holds Arroyo "responsible for engaging in counterrevolutionary dual tactics of violence and deception against the Filipino people, the revolutionary forces and the legal democratic forces" and is only pretending to be interested in peace talks with the NDF.

The CPP spokesperson said that Arroyo cannot just wash off her hands the wild utterances and dirty intrigues made by her upstart national security adviser.

The CPP spokesperson said that Arroyo's duplicity and treachery is damaging the peace talks. He said that the CPP is now asking the NDF peace panel to seriously evaluate if there is any further reason to believe that the Arroyo regime is still in a position to talk about reforms or to proceed with the peace talks at all in good faith.

Rosal said that the next round of talks are supposed to tackle socio-economic reforms, after which comes political and electoral reforms. "Malacaņang's heightened attacks against progressives and progressive parties running in the elections practically prejudices and preempts prospects of any socio-economic and political-electoral reform. Malacaņang's recent attacks on progressives and progressive parties spell only 'war or nothing'," said Rosal.

Rosal said that Arroyo is doing this in the eve of the elections in a desperate attempt to eliminate the progressives' significant influence on the people.

He cited surveys showing that progressives are likely to get at least 16% of the votes, enough to constitute a decisive swing force in the presidential elections and to stand in the way of Arroyo's plan to force a massive steal of the polls. Rosal said that Arroyo's hopes to take over such significant influence of the progressives by means of intrique, intimidation and force.

"Arroyo and her co-puppets are worried about the likely possibility of progressives assuming a significantly larger number of seats in the reactionary congress and constituting a bigger stumbling block to more pro-imperialist, anti-people and reactionary policies and laws in the offing," Rosal said.

In the wake of Gonzales' utterances, the CPP denounced Arroyo for treacherously casting a Red scare and unleashing vicous dogs of war against the revolutionary movement, the progressive democratic forces and the people, while hypocritically feigning interest in talking peace with the revolutionary movement.
