5 Fascist Soldiers Die And 1 Wounded As NPA Red Fighters Clashed With 41St IB Troops In Apao, Tineg, Abra January 18, 2006
An NPA squad from a unit of the Agustin Begnalen Command clashed with a 54-man contingent of the 41st IB in a pastureland in Apao, Tineg, on January 17, 2006. The firefight lasted for more than 2 hours, as the outnumbered NPA guerillas maneuvered in the open fields of the pastureland. 5 fascist soldiers perished, although a certain PFC Santos Hermono was the only wounded soldier reported by the 41st IB at DZPA radio on January 17, 2006.
The NPA squad was dispatched in the area to check and possibly launch punitive actions against the notorious elements of the 41st IB, whose record in Abra is filled with human rights violations that includes the killing of several civilians, forcible dragging of civilians for use as human shields, harassment and intimidation of the civilian population, cattle rustling, destruction of agriculture and private property, among others. The 41st IB also conducts military operations in areas targeted by big mining companies, to facilitate the latter’s entry and pacify protests against these mining companies.
At 11 pm on January 17, 2006, a company-sized contingent from the 41st IB (possibly with elements of the 51st or 52nd Recon Coy of the 503rd Brigade) arrived at Barangay Poblacion, Lacub Abra. Obviously, the Philippine Army is gearing on large-scale military operations in North Abra, in the municipalities of Tineg, Lacub, Malibcong and Baay-Licuan. And as always, the people should expect and be vigilant against abuses by the fascist troops.
The Agustin Begnalen Command, among with the revolutionary masses of Abra, will frustrate military campaigns and efforts of big business interests in cahoots with bureaucrats and local ruling classes to implement anti-people projects in the province. The Agustin Begnalen Command will further contribute in the people’s efforts to topple the isolated GMA Regime and calls on the soldiers and officers of the AFP, particularly the junior officers and the rank-and-file of the 41st IB, the 77th IB, the 51st and the 52nd Recon Coy to dissert the fascist armed forces, truly serve the people, and topple the Arroyo Regime.
