| NPA-Abra ambushes PNP-RMG on the 38th Anniversary of the NPA31 March 2007
NPA guerilas under the Agustin Begnalen Command commemorated the 38th founding anniversary of the NPA by staging an ambush against operating troops of the PNP RMG-Cordillera. A spot report conveyed that 3 troopers were killed, while 1 was seriously wounded. Succeeding but unconfirmed information stated that more casualties have been inflicted on the fascist police forces. The NPAs safely retreated.
The ambush was underatken by an NPA unit on MArch 29, 2007, at Mt. Tuktukab, above the small-scale mining areas of Barangay Pacoc-Talampac, Lacub, Abra. The NPA unit was closely monitoring troop movements of combined elements from the 41st IB, PA and the PNP-RMG-Cordillera when police troopers tried to maneuver on the mountain ridges of Mt. Tuktukab. The ambush started at 11:45 and intense fighting lasted for 15 minutes. However, sporadic exchange of gunfire continued until 4:30PM, when casualties were retrieved with the aid of 2 huey helicopters.
Around 300 troopers under the direct leadership of the 41st IB's Col. Bautista and the PNP's Col. Cayat entered Lacub municipality at 4AM on March 28, 2007. The stated intent of the operation were "election-related" and to search for an alleged "big NPA camp". The obvious intent of the big operation were to open up the small-scale areas for exploitation by big mining companies, and to sabotage NPA anniversary celebrations.
A few days earlier, 41st IB troopers started combat and patrol operations in the municipalities of Tineg and Sallpadan. But instead of dampening the commemoration of the NPA's 38th founding anniversary, these operations served as ready-made targets for NPA guerillas. And what better way of commemorating the 38th founding anniversary than to show the fighting will and capability of the New People's Army!
Indeed, the March 29, 2007 ambush at Mt. Tuktukab exemplified the superiority of a heavilly outnumbered guerilla force, fighting for the interests of the vast majority of the toiling masses and democratic sectors.
The Agustin Begnalen Command, in behalf of the Red Commanders and fighters of the NPA-Abra, on the occasion of the NPA's 38th founding anniversary, reiterates it's heightened commitment and fighting will to frustrate Oplan Bantay Laya II. The AFP and PNP cannot win the war, fighting for an extremely isolated regime of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. No amount of state terrorism can dampen the people's revolutionary struggle to advance genuine national democracy and social emancipation.
