Confiscated High Caliber Weapons an Addition to the NPA's Arsenal, A Victory for the People of Catanduanes

January 25, 2004

A platoon of Red fighters of the Eduardo Banaag Command successfully confiscated high caliber weapons being stored in the house of Mayor Armando T. Guerrero of Gigmoto, Catanduanes from a raid carried out on January 20, 2004 around 8:30 in the morning.

Mayor Guerrero and two of his men were wounded in the said raid. The NPA did not plan to hurt anyone in the said confrontation. Its only objective was to confiscate the arms, but Mayor Guerrero and his men became adamant and combative so the NPA was forced to fire on them in order to neutralize them.

Mayor Guerrero and the local forces of the reactionary government tried to conceal the confiscation of the said weapons. They also took exception to the fact that the mayor's house was successfully penetrated. They are reluctant to disclose the train of events because it would be a great embarrassment to them, and above all, because they would like to conceal the fact that Mayor Guerrero had high caliber weapons in his possession.

The confiscation of the arms in Mayor Guerrero's house is a victory for the people of Gigmoto and the people of Catanduanes. They were the very source of the information regarding the weapons stored in Mayor Guerrero's house. Mayor Guerrero, who was a former policeman, is a warlord. The Security Agency that he owns is a cover for storing high caliber weapons. It becomes an instrument for intimidating his political rivals, and above all, the people of Gigmoto. It also becomes the protection for his illegal drug business.

There is no truth to the allegation that the raid on Mayor Guerrero, who is running for re-election as mayor of Gigmoto, has a "political color." The confiscation is based on the program of the New People's Army which is now strengthening itself. The revolutionary movement has a need for additional arms in order to defend itself and the interests of the oppressed people against the repression of the reactionary forces. It is also to raise the level of armed resistance of the Filipino people against the local and foreign oppressors and exploiters towards the objective of winning the national-democratic revolution and socialism.

Long live the New People's Army!
Long live the people of Catanduanes!
Long live the Philippine revolution!
