To a Reproachful Father
Your child is not sorry
She will not beg forgiveness.
You are in her thoughts
While among the peasants,
You are dear to her
While comrades sing.
How's business going?
Net profits are shrinking
And yet you continue to be mesmerized
By illusions of an economic miracle.
How many fathers and children are like us?
With endless differences,
With minds that never met.
Do not punish yourself
With litanies of regret.
You were not wanting as a father
But the blindfold has long been gone
From my eyes.
We talk about you here
How to save the likes of you.
A wave will come, we know,
Carrying you into the new order
We are fathers and children who will argue,
yet come together to forge the future.
