Oil price increases add fuel to anti-Arroyo protests--CPP
June 19, 2005
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today condemned foreign-owned oil companies for raising anew prices of petroleum products and said this further worsens the people's socio-economic conditions.
At the same time, CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal urged the Filipino people to launch mass protests to condemn the "superprofit-hungry" oil companies and the acquiescent Arroyo regime.
Rosal said that there has been a growing widespread demand for the immediate repeal of the Oil Deregulation Law which has allowed the unbridled increases in oil prices during the past several years. The Arroyo regime has stood pat against its repeal, Rosal noted.
Oil companies including Pilipinas Shell and Caltex increased prices of diesel, gasoline and kerosene by an average of 50 centavos per liter bringing to P1 per liter the increases since last week.
Rosal said increases in oil prices further fuel anti-government denunciations and protests that are fast mounting as a result of the revelation of Arroyo's direct culpability and collusion with COMELEC officials in manipulating the results of the 2005 elections.
