CPP calls on Filipino people to thwart plans for martial rule October 12, 2005
The Communist Party of the Philippines called upon the entire Filipino people to act posthaste to thwart the Arroyo regime's plans to impose open fascist rule in the near future.
CPP spokesperson, Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said that it is a good thing that the plan already in the works to impose "a Marcos-type martial law without Marcos and with another tag" has been prematurely exposed. "But the Filipino people cannot sit back as the Arroyo regime is out to take advantage of any slack in their vigilance and resistance."
He said that the Arroyo's martial law declaration may have only been temporarily upset by the early discovery and exposure of an executive order titled "A proclamation declaring lawless violence, rebellion, and state of national emergency, and the establishment of a revolutionary government." Rosal added, "It has caught Malacaang off guard and placed it in the defensive for now, as it had planned to proceed with a more calibrated approach before finally imposing full-scale martial law. But we should not be the ones to be caught off guard."
Rosal twitted Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales for trying to totally deny the matter "even when he was caught with his pants down." Gonzales was only forced to admit it after the mediag caught a glimpse of the executive order lying on his desk, "and still he has the gall of saying that the draft is only in response to the oil crisis."
Rosal deplored the Arroyo regime for demagogically using the oil crisis to deceive the people and make its political maneuvers to perpetuate itself in power more palatable.
Its evil dictatorial scheme cannot, however, be concealed with conflicting denials and Gonzales' clumsy sleight of hand to reveal another EO 467, Rosal asserted. "The Filipino people cannot be blinded by the Arroyo regime's smokescreens."
The CPP, through its spokesperson, said that the people should not rest content that the danger is over after the early exposure of Arroyo's plan to impose open fascist rule as soon as Congress goes on recess and the official denials of Malacaang that there is indeed a martial law plan in the making.
"Where there's smoke, there's fire, and it's not only the smoke but the fire that must be put out," said Rosal. "As has been revealed in the inadvertently exposed executive order to declare a state national emergency, one cannot stress the importance of resisting all forms of fascist rule, from the 'no permit, no rally,' type to EO 464 to the open imposition of dictatorship."
