The Arroyo regime does not provide favorable conditions for ceasefire -- Ka Roger

December 14, 2005

Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said today that the Party is considering recommendations for a ceasefire this Christmas season, but at the same time said that "the current fascist onslaught" of the Arroyo regime does not provide favorable conditions for it.

"Violations of human rights by the fascist military and its paramilitary forces continue unabated. This year saw record violations of human rights in the wake of the Marcos dictatorship," Rosal said.

He pointed out "the hideous massacre of ten unarmed peasants in Palo, Leyte, the forced evacuation of 10,000 residents in Central and South Quezon as well as the killing of at least seven more activists and human rights workers in the past month," Rosal pointed out.

"And as if to rub salt on the people's wounds, Arroyo is even boosting the promotion of the notorious fascist, Gen. Jovito Palparan, by assigning him to head the Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry Division urging him to spread his criminal fascist deeds to the entire Southern Tagalog region," Rosal added.

Rosal also pointed out that the Arroyo regime has all but shut the doors to peace negotiations with its order to arrest peace negotiators and consultants of the National Democratic Front (NDF), its filing of trumped-up murder charges against NDF senior consultant Jose Ma. Sison and its refusal to carry out its obligations in the 2004 Oslo Accord, including explicit moves to have the CPP, NPA and Sison removed from the US list of "foreign terrorists."

"In the face of the intensifying fascist attacks of the Arroyo regime, the Filipino people want the New People's Army to defend their rights and punish the Arroyo regime and its fascist forces for their crimes, and not to let go of the current momentum of the revolutionary armed struggle," Rosal added.
