GMA ceasefire a cheap PR stunt, CPP says

The Communist Party of the Philipppines (CPP) today dismissed yesterday's declaration by Malacanang of a 4-day suspension of offensive military operations (SOMO) as merely a cheap PR gimmick. "The Arroyo regime is desperately isolated from the people and is only trying hard this way to win ganda points," said CPP spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal.

Rosal said the Arroyo regime's lip-service SOMO declaration "only serves to cover-up the relentless political assassinations and military attacks against civilian communities in the countryside."

He cited that at least 110 anti-Arroyo progressive activists have been assassinated in the past 10 months. Rosal also said that in the past three months alone, at least 35,000 individuals have been forcibly evacuated from their communities in Aurora, Leyte, Sulu and Southern Quezon.

"This is the reason why the Filipino people are calling on its revolutionary armed forces, the New People's Army, to carry-out more attacks against the fascist armed troops of the Arroyo regime," said Rosal.

The CPP spokesperson said further that "the NPA is determined to continue to intensify its tactical offensives through to next year in support of the people's widespread clamor and struggle to end the Arroyo regime."

Rosal added that the CPP-NPA and the entire revolutionary forces and mass base are not fooled at all by the sham declarations of ceasefire by the government and are quite familiar with the treachery of the enemy forces.

"As the people's army and our mass base have often experienced, the enemy forces don't respect and do not adhere at all to the government's declarations of ceasefire. The NPA forces will be remain 100% on guard and prepared to attack and defeat every incursions of the AFP, PNP and their paramilitary forces into CPP-NPA base areas," said Rosal.
