PNP terror plot report, a smokescreen for stepped-up repression--CPP

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today accused the Philippine National Police of manufacturing intelligence to justify both the imposition of fascist policies such as the National ID system as well as to bolster the argument for an escalation of US military intervention in the Philippines.

CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal issued the statement as he expressed doubts about PNP reports on a "terrorist plot" to bomb certain targets in Luzon.

Calling it a "a figment of the imagination of the Philippine National Police's Intelligence Group", Rosal also doubted the existence of a so-called Rajah Solaiman Revolutionary Movement (RSRM) that had supposedly planned to bomb the Ninoy Aquino International Airport among other targets.

Rosal recalled that in January, the PNP also invoked a so-called RSRM plot to bomb the Black Nazarene procession in Quiapo, Manila to justify raids on Moro communities and the subsequent illegal arrest of 17 civilians.

Even other PNP intelligence operatives were openly skeptical about the PNP Intelligence Group's reports, Rosal noted.

"These supposed intelligence reports are really inspired by, and are no different from, the Bush government's pretexts for invading Iraq and Afghanistan and for its planned subversion against North Korea, Iran, Cuba, and other countries comprising what the US has dubbed as the 'outposts of tyranny,'" said Rosal.

Rosal believes that American military advisers and spies clandestinely operating in the Philippine orchestrate these so-called intelligence reports.

"Ultimately, it is the US that is the biggest winner, because so-called terrorist plots justify its military interventionism and the Bush government's gargantuan war budget," Rosal said.
