CPP demands release of arrested Moros
January 11, 2005
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today called for the immediate release of five Moro men arrested with 11 others on January 7 in Manila, saying they are "victims of the Arroyo government and Philippine National Police (PNP) in a desperate publicity stunt."
CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said today that "No one is buying the PNP story that the men they arrested are terrorists who planned to bomb the Quiapo religious procession last Sunday."
Rosal condemned the Arroyo regime for "victimizing the Moro people." He said, the Arroyo regime is "hyping-up the terror-scare in a desperate publicity stunt to frighten the people."
"Recall that this is not the first time that the basic civil rights of the Moro people have been trampled upon by the Arroyo government in its so-called anti-terror drive," Rosal pointed out.
"Using the PNP, the Arroyo regime has been terrorizing Moro communities in Metro Manila," Rosal said. "We enjoin the Moro people to stand up to defend their rights and dignity."
"We fully sympathize with the Moro communities in Manila, especially the families of those who were rounded up by the PNP," Rosal said.
