It is the US-Arroyo regime's fascist violence that teaches the youth about the need to join the NPA

Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal
Spokesperson
Communist Party of the Philippines
September 29, 2003

In behalf of the Communist Party of the Philippines, I express my burning anger against the US-Arroyo regime and the AFP for the treacherous abduction, torture and murder in Compostela Valley on September 22 of Lito Doydoy, Marjorie Reynoso, Jonathan Benaro and Ramon Regase —youth activists and members of Anakbayan, Anak ng Bayan Youth Party and the Sangguniang Kabataan.

They are the latest victims of the US-Arroyo regime's terrorist all-out war. They were unarmed and their killing unjust. The New People's Army will make sure that the US-Arroyo regime's rabid underlings who ordered and perpetrated this heinous crime will not go unpunished.

Like the murder of Eden Marcellana and other activists in various areas, Doydoy and his companions were killed by the US-Arroyo regime in the belief that it could terrorize the people and lead them off the path of revolution. The US-Arroyo regime particularly trains its fascist viciousness on the youth who have been joining the NPA in their numbers and giving valuable contributions towards advancing the people's revolutionary struggle.

The murder of the four youth activists in Compostela Valley has brought to the fore Arroyo's lack of interest in addressing the grievances of the youth and their parents. The children of workers, peasants and other impoverished people have absolutely no hope of rising above their poverty and oppression in the face of the US-Arroyo regime's continued puppetry to US imperialism and the worsening corruption and fascist violence against the people under the regime and the reactionary classes' oppressive and exploitative rule.

The US-Arroyo regime is gravely mistaken if it believes that it can stop the revolutionary movement's advance by inflicting fascist violence on the people. The more the military uses fascism in trying to control the countryside, the more reactionary power vanishes in the people's hearts and minds. The longer the list of victims of harassment, illegal arrests and detention, murder, torture, massacres and other fascist abuses grows, the more intense the people's desire to resist becomes.

The US-Arroyo regime's fascist violence teaches the youth that they need to join the NPA. In fact, in areas where the US-Arroyo regime's all-out terrorist war has wrought intense militarization, more and more youth join the revolutionary movement and the NPA.

It is only the national-democratic revolutionary movement that offers hope to the Filipino youth of a prosperous, progressive, just and liberated future. Thus, thousands of youth are joining revolutionary organizations like the Kabataang Makabayan both within and outside guerrilla zones. Most of the New People's Army's fighters come from the youth. The young blood that flows in their veins lends never-ending vigor to the NPA. ###
