NPA-Camarines Norte denies "bomb threat" at school in Camarines Norte

The New People’s Army (NPA)-Camarines Norte (Armando Catapia Command) belied the circulating reports of its links to a “bomb threat” at a school in Camarines Norte in recent days. Messages spread across the school and social media where NPA impostors extorted money and equipment while issuing threats of an explosion.

Media reported that a threatening letter was found in the restroom of Mabini Colleges-High School Department in Daet on the morning of February 20. The letter contained a serious threat of violence or explosion inside the school unless the demanded financial payment is met.

The message demanded the delivery of ₱9 million to Barangay Colasi, Mercedes through a student. The letter also claimed to have contacts inside the campus. The threats prompted suspension of classes in the campus.

This was the second threat of violence on campus this February. The Philippine National Police (PNP)-Camarines Norte used these incidents to intensify its presence in Daet and the neighboring town of Bansud.

“Contrary to the circulated fake letters’ contents, the NPA does not bomb public facilities such as schools that would endanger civilians,” the NPA-Camarines Norte stated. It said the people’s army strictly upholds the interests and welfare of civilians and adheres to the international laws of war and human rights.

According to the unit, the spread of disinformation and fake news to vilify the NPA seeks to brand the people’s revolutionary army as “terrorist.” “This is merely the US-Marcos regime’s effort to sow terror and subdue civilians under the control of its fascist troops,” the NPA-Camarines Norte added.

The NPA provincial command called on the Filipino people to remain vigilant against any form of disinformation targeting the revolutionary movement, especially amid the Marcos regime’s deepening political and economic crisis. “It is the fascist regime that should fear the imminent explosion of the people’s wrath—fed up with this rotten government’s corruption,” it said.
