Cuban government officials condemned the shooting against its embassy in Washington D.C. in the US on April 30. The gunman was identified as Alexander Alazo, a mentally deranged Cuban exile.

Cuba believes that the hostility toward Cuba by US government officials fomented violence. Cuba likened the incident to attacks against Cuban health workers who are providing medical assistance to poor countries that are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Such crimes are being perpetrated simultaneous with aggressive policies implemented by the US against Cuba such as blockades and other economic sanctions.
