Proletarian Party of East Bengal: Condolences on the death of the unforgettable Maoist leader of the Philippines, Jose Maria Sison

It is matter of deep mourning that, Jose Maria Sison, a lifelong revolutionary comrade, founding Chairman of the Communist Party of Philippines (CPP) died at a hospital in Netherlands on 16th December, 2022. He was 83 years old at that time.

Comrade Sison re-established the Communist Party of the Philippines and launched a protracted people’s war inspired by the Soviet-China Great Debate and Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (GPCR) in the 60’s. On the basis of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism (then Mao Zedong Thought) (MLM), under the leadership of Comrade Sison, CPP took the position to continued the protracted people’s war and stood against the revisionism. In 1977, during the war, Comrade Sison was arrested. Comrade Sison was released in 1986 as a part of the Philippine government’s peace-talk process. As a result of the failure of peace talks, he Took political asylum in the Netherlands. While living in the Netherlands, he continued to serve as the Chief Political Consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. Besides, he was also the Chairman of International League for People’s Struggle (ILPS), an anti-imperialist international organization.

Comrade Sison wrote many books and documents in support of Maoism, notably “Philippine’s Society and Revolution.” He was a revolutionary poet. He has an important contribution to the international communist movement.
