Six soldiers of 94th IB under the Philippine Army’s 303rd IBde were killed in an ambush staged by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sitio Sig-ang, Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City on the morning of October 6, 2022.

As early as the evening of October 5, a unit of the Mount Cansermon Command of the NPA-South Central Negros already received information that 94th IB soldiers were moving towards Sitio Sig-ang.

This prompted Red fighters of the NPA to prepare a counter-offensive. At around 6 a.m. in the morning on October 6, they ambushed the operating fascist troops of the 94th IB.

To conceal their casualties, the military cordoned off Sitios Sig-ang and Medel.

The miliary erected a checkpoint in Sitio Medel and shelled nearby mountains seven times. They strafed the rivers and sugarcane fields. Some sugarcane workers were arrested and tortured while under interrogation.

At the same time, the military claimed over social media that successive encounters took place which resulted in chaos and confusion among the people. As the moment, 1,767 residents have already evacuated to the village center of Barangay Carabalan.

According to the Apolinario Gatmaitan Command of the Negros Regional Command, the reason for prolonged military operations in the mountain barangays of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental and its boundary with Tayasan, Negros Oriental is clear. It is because of major interests of bourgeois compradors in the area for mining, logging, quarry and agribusiness.
