A unit of the New People’s Army (NPA)-Southwest Negros mounted a harassment operation against a military detachment in Pinggot, Ilog on October 20, 7p.m. According to the unit, it was launched in response to the military’s fascist attacks and abuse of the peasant masses in Ilog and neighboring towns.

These military abuses include the 47th IB’s firing of an M203 in the direction of a farmer Alfredo Dantes whom the operating soldiers met in Sitio Looc, Camindangan, Sipalay City this month. The soldiers also interrogated Dantes severely traumatizing him.

Meanwhile, on October 20, 47th IB troops stole and roasted Regulo Sabugero’s chicken in Sitio Kutod, Camindangan, Sipalay City.

During the last week of September, the people were severely traumatized as the Philippine Army fired artillery day-and-night near Sitio Binus-ay, Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City. Residents said not less than 40 bombs were fired by the soldiers. These landed near their place.

Since May 30, soldiers have staged military operations covering eight villages or 35 sitios in Cauayan and two villages or 10 sitios in Sipalay. Around 200-300 soldiers are operating in the area.
