Red fighters of the New People’s Army (NPA) and members of the Communist Party of the Philippines graduated from the Basic Party Course (BKP) in the first week of May in the mountains of Surigao del Sur. The course was studied in a staggered manner to adapt to the military situation and other activities of the people’s army in the said province.

Sessions for the BKP started on April 10 and officially ended on May 3. The unit discussed one or two study topics at each new temporary post while carrying out their tasks.

They held a graduation ceremony on May 6 with the theme “NPA’s Victory, People’s Victory” giving handwritten graduation certificates to fighters and Party members who graduated from the school. They were also given ribbons.

During the two-hour program, NPA unit officers and graduates delivered speeches and messages. Fighters also performed colorful cultural performances.

The unit said the study is in line with the Central Committee’s call for a rectification movement. “We launched the BKP to arm our forces with Marxism-Leninism-Maoism theory, especially Party recruits who were not immediately given education due to the difficult situation borne from internal weaknesses,” the unit said.

The study also helped to train new instructors for the next series of studies.

At the closing ceremony, they renewed their pledge to the Party’s red flag to reaffirm their commitment.
