Revolutionary street theater condemns US imperialist war of aggression as central theme

,

Various allied revolutionary organizations of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) launched a swift street theater condemning the US imperialist war of aggression worldwide. Artista at Manunulat ng Sambayanan (Armas, or People’s Artists and Writers)-Ka Soral Malaya reported on May 29 that the play was staged on April 28 along Quirino Highway in Novaliches, Quezon City. The performance also marked the NDFP’s 53rd anniversary on April 24.

Among those who participated in the performance are Armas chapters (Armas-Ka Soral Malaya, Armas-Baby Jane Orbe, Armas-Tanya Domingo, and Armas-Anghel Bedonia). Members of Katipunan ng mga Samahang Manggagawa (Kasama, or Alliance of Workers’ Associations) and Liga ng Agham para sa Bayan (LAB, or League of Scientists for the People) also took part in the activity. The performance featured the piece ‘Asintahin’ which tackled the continuing terrorism of US imperialism and the call for the people worldwide to unite against the US imperialist war of aggression.

Cued by the performers, revolutionary organization members gathered in front of a market to start the program. They began a little past 7 in the morning and ended after more than ten minutes. Many passersby and commuters waiting for rides witnessed the performance.

The performance showed a simple sculpture of a burning aircraft symbolizing the current dominance and supremacy of the US through its war power. It burns because the people will surely and decisively defeat it, according to the groups.

The performance also highlighted the US imperialist interventionist wars in various countries and how these burden the Filipino people. It also depicted the people’s unity to embrace and advance the protracted people’s war. “There is no other genuine and lasting solution to the crisis except armed revolution,” Armas-Ka Soral Malaya spokesperson Sol Olvido said.

The spokesperson added that as the crisis in the economy and politics further intensifies, the US-Marcos Jr regime’s imposed hardships become more apparent to the people. “Revolutionaries now have the obligation to make the people understand that this stems from the domination of imperialism, bureaucrat capitalism, and feudalism in the country. It is our duty to make the masses embrace the program of national democracy, which can only be fully advanced through participation in the protracted people’s war,” Olvido said.

Olvido emphasized the important role of revolutionary organizations in carrying out the performance. “Every revolutionary is a cultural revolutionary. Now more than ever, cultural work must be intensified: this includes understanding concrete conditions, grasping the changing political situation, and honing the creation of artistic work. These are necessary to advance agitation, organization, and mobilization of revolutionary forces,” he said.

The activity celebrates the NDFP’s 53rd anniversary also held in various parts of the Philippines from the last week of April to the first half of May.
