Sine Proletaryo releases first episode in 'Buhay Gerilya' series

On April 8, Sine Proletaryo launched the first episode for its’Buhay Gerilya’, a series which will provice a glimpse into the lives and struggles of revolutionary fighters and commanders of the New People’s Army (NPA) and members of revolutionary organizations. The series aims to show adherence to revolutionary principles, challenges in the revolution, and daily experiences in forging a new society.

In its first interview, Sine Proletaryo, in collaboration with NPA-Southern Tagalog, featured Comrade Kathryn, 32 years old. Comrade Kathryn currently serves as a political officer of NPA-Southern Tagalog (Melito Glor Command).

In the interview, Comrade Kathryn shared her experiences spanning over a decade on the path of armed revolution. She shared that as a young student, she became aware of the true state of society due to the hardships caused by rising tuition fees and other basic needs and commodities.

She said, “as long as our society undergoes no concrete change, the youth will have no proper progress and future.” She said she found answers to these problems in the people’s army.

She further recounted that she met many fellow youths during her three-month tour of duty or TOD. She shared that during their first immersion in activities, they established dozens of organizing groups and active mass organizations in villages. Here, she realized that the revolutionary movement is establishing a people’s government.

Within the TOD’s program, Comrade Kathryn expressed her hope to experience her first military combat experience. She said this experience would have been her gauge to determine her readiness to become a full-time Red fighter, but nothing happened.

Despite this, Comrade Kathryn bravely decided to become a full-time fighter in Southern Tagalog. “I couldn’t let go of that life, the joy in feeling able to help the masses, the gradual building of a new government,” she narrated.

She further shared that during her many years in the NPA, “life in the army is difficult but I embraced that challenge because the masses inspire me.”

Aside from these, Comrade Kathryn answered many more questions while joking with her interviewer. Sine Proletaryo’s first episode also showed some scenes of Comrade Kathryn performing kitchen duties and other responsibilities within the unit.

According to Sine Proletaryo, netizens who watched the first episode on Facebook reacted positively. “The masses appreciated the video and some even sent ‘requests’ for topics in future videos,” the group stated.

The video and series of ‘Buhay Gerilya’ can be viewed on Philippine Revolution Web Central (PRWC), its archive.org account, and Facebook. Sine Proletaryo encouraged revolutionary organizations to download the video and repeatedly share and upload it to reach more viewers and keep it online.

Meanwhile, Sine Proletaryo urged other NPA units and mass organizations to send their videos and interviews to be featured in the series.
