In behalf of the Filipino people and their revolutionary forces, the Communist
Party of the Philippines (CPP) joins the peace-loving people across the world in
applauding the successful summit between Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump held
last June 12 at the Capella Hotel in Singapore.

The CPP congratulates DPRK leader Kim for advancing the aspiration of the Korean
people to attain a respite to the state of war and unify and build peace in the
Korean peninsula. That Chairman Kim stood tall beside President Trump is a
testament to the strength and resilience of the Korean people, especially in
DPRK, who have withstood decades of relentless US agression, sanctions and
intimidation by the imperialist superpower.

The DPRK’s reiteration of its commitment to the complete denuclearization of the
Korean peninsula is a generous offer which helped forge mutual understanding
between the US and the DPRK to “join efforts to build a lasting and stable peace
regime on the Korean peninsula” and will surely boost efforts to forge more
agreements in the future.

The Party hails the successful DPRK-US summit as it bodes well for the momentary
easing of tensions in the Korean brought about by massive and regular military
exercises conducted by the US in South Korea and around the peninsula. It has
also opened the possibility of the lifting economic sanctions imposed by the US
and its allies which have hurt the DPRK economy and its people.
