Traffic in the Philippines is second worst in the world

TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN Metro Manila ranked second in the world according to the Traffic Index 2019, a report issued last month by German company TomTom. The report analyzed traffic congestion in 416 major urban centers across the globe.

The report indicates that the average congestion level in Metro Manila is at 71%. It revealed that motorists lost about 257 hours last year in gridlocks. Due to traffic congestion, a 30-minute trip on average becomes 59 minutes in the morning and 68 in the evening.

Roads are most congested during rush hour (8-9 a.m.; and 6-7 p.m.). The average congestion level reaches 128% in the evening and 95% in the morning. It peaks at 143% during the evening rush on Fridays.
