The 7th IB shot and killed a 16-year-old student on June 9 in Sityo Kiluding, Barangay Kiadsam, Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat. The soldiers killed Kuni Cuba, a Grade 9 student. He was returning home with his brother and two friends when the murder happened.

Reports said Cuba and his companions were three meters away from the operating unit of the 7th IB when the soldiers ordered them to “move back” before firing. Cuba was immediately hit, while his three companions scampered to the adjacent cornfield. Soldiers then placed a Garand rifle near Cuba’s body ang falsely claimed that he was a member of the New People’s Army.

Kuni’s family denied the military’s allegation. They said he was just an ordinary student who dreamed of finishing his studies.
