A unit of the New People’s Army (NPA)-Central Negros (Leonardo Panaligan Command) attacked and opened fire on the 62nd IB troopers’ base in Barangay Hinakpan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental at 6:30 p.m. last May 27. They fired at the base for five minutes.

The armed action followed the NPA-Central Negros attack on the 62nd IB unit based in Barangay Malangsa, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental on May 24.

Ka JB Regalado, NPA-Central Negros spokesperson, said the people’s army is able to launch armed actions because of the deep and broad support of the masses of farmers and residents in the area. The masses assisted the unit in providing timely reports and information regarding the 62nd IB’s pattern of action.

The presence of the people’s army in Central Negros and its armed actions belie the repeated boasting of the 303rd IBde and the 3rd ID that the people’s army has been disbanded on Negros island.
