Police and military attack Cavite community farmers anew
More than 100 elements of the combined police and military Task Force Ugnay of the 202nd IBde again attacked and attempted to raid Lupang Ramos in Dasmariñas Cavite today, September 26. This month alone, state forces have tried several times to enter the hacienda to break the unity of the peasants defending their land rights.
As in the past, Cavite state forces and local officials used deceptive tactics. At first, they stated that they plan to “inspect” the community for fire prevention.
“Only the community’s assertion forced the LGU (local government unit) to mention the alleged “peace and order resolutions” that aimed to investigate Lupang Ramos as a “consolidation area for radicalization by the CPP-NPA,” Jeverlyn Seguin, Southern Katagalugan Association of Farmers Associations (Kasama-TK) spokesperson, shared.
Lupang Ramos residents and farmers barricaded the road to stop state forces into their area. They did the same thing on September 10 when 50 state forces attacked on the pretext of an inspection for African Swine Fever.
The Katipunan ng mga Lehitimong Magsasaka at Mamamayan sa Lupang Ramos (Kasama-LR) is leading their resistance. Kasama-LR called on fellow farmers and residents to “strengthen the ranks of those fighting for land and human rights.”
