The 1Sambayan coalition has released a list of senatorial candidates and party-lists that it will support and campaign for in the upcoming mid-term elections. The list includes a senatorial candidate and three parties under the progressive political coalition Makabayan. The 1Sambayan coalition is led by former Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio.

The eight endorsed senatorial candidates include ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro from Makabayan. It also supports seven party-lists including Makabayan’s ACT Teachers, Kabataan, and Bayan Muna.

According to Bayan Muna, this recognition is an honor and 1Sambayan can be sure that the party will bravely and forcefully advance the interests of the people, not the few and especially not the foreigners. “The endorsement is proof of our united aspiration to hold accountable those who squander public funds, to promote honest and patriotic leadership, and to fight for the immediate relief for the people,” the party said.

Bayan Muna’s first nominee is Atty. Neri Colmenares, whose senate candidacy ISambayan firmly supported during the 2022 election.

The Kabataan Party-list also thanked the coalition for the endorsement. The party’s first nominee, Atty. Rene Co is among the convenors of 1Sambayan and the main leader of 1Sambayan Youth. “We will continue to fight for education, work, service and rights!” the party stated.

Makabayan has a total of 11 senatorial candidates while four parties under it will run in the party-list system.

1Sambayan was formed in 2021 with the aim to unify the opposition’s voice against the Duterte and Marcos factions in the 2022 election. It served as one of the main machineries for the candidacy of Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan.
