Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) units have been conducting focused military operations (FMO) in the town of Real, Quezon for three weeks, terrorizing and harassing the townfolk.

With this series of FMOs in Real, the AFP and Philippine National Police seek to remove obstacles to the construction of the Real Wind Power Project. The military aims to terrorize the residents to railroad this project.

The Real Wind Energy Inc (RWEI) owns the project that is touted to produce 250 MW of electricity. The Ayala family’s ACEN Corporation fully owns RWEI, after buying out Maraj Energy Management Pte Ltd. The project will cover the barangays of Kiloloron, Capalong, Tagumpay, Tignoan, Tanauan, Malapad, Lubayat, Bagong Silang, Maragondon, and Llavac, spanning a total of 5,670 hectares. It is boasted as the “largest” wind power project in the country.

At the peak of combat operations, cases of illegal house ransacking, harassment, threats, and red-tagging have been documented. Soldiers raided the hut of a family without a search warrant, and falsely claimed that the items they seized from the hut were allegedly from a New People’s Army (NPA) camp.

The AFP is scrambling to bloat its record with “successes” against the NPA, especially as the year is closing. “They wrongly think that the (military) operation will get in the way of people’s unity and the people’s army’s efforts to address the people’s problems, including the Real Wind Energy and dam projects that are encroaching on their lands,” NPA-North Quezon spokesperson Ka Eli dela Guerra said.

The AFP soldiers are terrified whenever they receive information about the alleged presence of the revolutionary army in the area, the masses report. “They plan to bombard Real with operations as they are scared stiff that the masses will meet up with the NPA,” Ka Eli added.

The North Quezon Red army spokesperson declared that the masses’ support and trust in them remain strong. “No matter how much they terrorize the area, the residents turn to the revolutionary movement to address their problems, while reporting (to the people’s army) the suppression and deception they endured and witnessed at the hand of the despised AFP, she stated.
